Farfegnugen!!

Last week I picked a care I purchased from a friend of mine. It's a Volkswagen Passat (V6). I love this car! As I drove from D/FW to Lufkin I enjoyed every minute of it. Do you know how fast you can go around a corner with a suggested speed of 60 mph? It ain't 60 mph! That's on the low end. I have owned a Volkswagen Jetta and a '71 Super Beetle. Those were great cars. I couldn't tear them up until one was totaled by a hit and run and the other was in a accident. I love getting this car on the highway and letting her go. She's a cool green color. I need a name for her, something that is fast, slick, but most of all smooooothe. Why? Because she is smoooothe. Suggest a name! Farfegnugen!! Mike

Puttin' Out the Flames

Well . . . I've just about got the flames out (see Running with my hair on fire ). Checking to see if there's much damage. Doesn't seem to be. I'm now a permanent resident of the state of Alabama! My heart still pumps burnt orange blood, but I must make a decision - Auburn or Alabama . I've already figured this one out - ROLL TIDE! Alabama has been a family favorite for years. Growing up I didn't even know there was another college in Alabama, then I heard something about some school called Auburn. Whatever! I do have somewhat of a bone to pick with these two schools. What is it with their mascots? On one side you've got 'Bama with an elephant. What's the elephant got to do with roll tide? Who came up with this one? But the elephant thing can't compare to a school who can't decide what their mascot should be. Have you heard about or seen this one? Is it tigers or war eagles? Give me a break! Decide and move on with life. Oh well, I can...

Runnin' with my hair on fire!

NO SIRRREEEE! Michael Jackson doesn't have a thing on me this week. This week I am runnin' with my hair on fire! For those of you who don't know "hair on fire" stuff, it means that I have so much to do that I'm running from place to place, event to event, and from task to task. To be honest, I kinda like it. It makes me concentrate more and I tend to focus on the tasks. BUUUTTTT, it does tend to give me "Tiger Vision" and sometimes I don't see the obvious around me. If that's you or your question, task, or appointment - sorry! Well I'm in Lufkin closing on my house here today. This makes me homeless for a couple of days. I still get to hang out in the house in Lufkin 'til the end of the week. I fly back to Mobile in the morning (Tuesday, July 19). Get there about noon and head to the church. Wednesday morning I'm supposed to close on my house in Mobile (actually Saraland - just to the north of Mobile - hence the name "North ...

Posting Props!

Last night (Friday, 7/15) went with a group of young singles from our church to see the Mobile BayBears (Padres minor league team) and see Shawn McDonald . Didn't know much about Shawn except for his song, Gravity , often played on the radio (click here to hear a snippit of the song live). Just as we arrived at the ball park a storm rolled in - a gully-washer. The game was delayed and so was Shawn's plane. At about 9:00 the game began. We watched a couple of innings and waited to see if Shawn would show. Somewhere around 9:30 we headed to the venue. At about 10:15 we received word that Shawn's plane had landed and he was on his way. Shawn did arrive - exhausted from traveling all day, smelly (by his own testimony), but willing to play on. Shawn spent the next hour or so leading in worship and giving all he had to minister to me and the faithful few who remained. It wasn't a large crowd by then - some had left early to get students home. Regardless of the time, the cr...

What if?

Ever wonder what the ramifications would be if no one ever read a blog? Think about this. Just imagine that all the bloggers in the world typed their little hearts out day in and day out. We would be posting goofy questions, thought provoking comments, etc. all to no one's delight or interest. I gues it would be like writing books, magazines, papers, and letters and no one ever read one of them. Would we continue to blog? Would there be a reason to? What would our motivation to blog become? Don't think it would ever happen. You're reading this one. Mike

I'm Scared! I'm Really Scared!!

Ok, I'm going to admit it once and for all. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAYS IN ALABAMA!! There I admitted it. It's out in the open. I do feel a little better. "Why?" you ask. For starters the speed limit on I-65 in Mobile (and North Mobile) is 65 mph. The other night I was driving home from Mobile - about a 10 mile jaunt - when I was passed by a young woman talking on her cell phone going faster than I was. How fast was I going? Try 80 mph just to keep from getting run over. What does that tell you about how fast she was driving? Yeah - I don't even know how I knew it was a woman. Then just a couple of days ago I was coming home from Mobile and a truck came around me. I wanted to know about how fast he was moving so I sped up to keep up with him until I hit 90 mph. He left me. You see what I'm talking about. Then yesterday I was coming back to the church from lunch and a car, towing a motorcycle - OK, so he wasn't towing him, but the motorcycle was cl...
