Posting Props!

Last night (Friday, 7/15) went with a group of young singles from our church to see the Mobile BayBears (Padres minor league team) and see Shawn McDonald. Didn't know much about Shawn except for his song, Gravity, often played on the radio (click here to hear a snippit of the song live).

Just as we arrived at the ball park a storm rolled in - a gully-washer. The game was delayed and so was Shawn's plane. At about 9:00 the game began. We watched a couple of innings and waited to see if Shawn would show.

Somewhere around 9:30 we headed to the venue. At about 10:15 we received word that Shawn's plane had landed and he was on his way. Shawn did arrive - exhausted from traveling all day, smelly (by his own testimony), but willing to play on.

Shawn spent the next hour or so leading in worship and giving all he had to minister to me and the faithful few who remained. It wasn't a large crowd by then - some had left early to get students home. Regardless of the time, the crowd - or lack of it - he went on and did an incredible job of singing, playing, worshipping, and serving God with his giftedness. He was very personable with thos in attendance and often interacted with us. It was like sitting around listening to someone who just happened to bring their guitar and began sharing their songs with us.

I wish I could tell him in person how much I appreciated his faithfulness. Not only did I learn to appreciate his music and style, but I also learned to appreciate the humility, character and integrity of a young man not often found in today's culture.

If you get a chance to see him in person or to have him in your church or student group do not hesitate to jump at the chance. You will be greatly blessed.
