Joseph and Greatness

I was reading Genesis 37 & 39 this morning when it hit me that Joseph's journey to greatness wasn't a straight line. There were dips along the road. There were trials he had to encounter. . .
  • being sold into slavery by his own brothers,
  • accused of sexual harassment by his boss' wife
  • thrown into prison
As all of this was happening he remained obedient and faithful to God. And if you track his progress it seems that each dip in the road was worse than the last. Yet, each dip moved him closer to God's plan to save his family and the nation of Israel. Each trial he endured moved him closer to a place of eternal influence. (I have a graphic I made, but it doesn't show up very well on my blog. I'll have to re-do it and post it later.)

I was thinking through all of it this morning and I came to a would you rather question. It is a question I believe God is asking me. So here it is for you to ponder. . .
Would you rather experience the dips and trials like Joseph to become great for God, or skip all that stuff and settle for being ordinary for God?

Camp is Good!

I'm home from a week at a student camp - Camp Chaparral . I was there teaching students how God created them for a place of ministry and encouraging them to involved - somehow. . .somewhere. I was also the guest of Pam & Steve Sparks. They are wonderful friends from my Lufkin days. Steve is the Assistant Director of the camp. Better give a shout out to the staff - Hey Mike, David, Heather, Doug, Tim, Nate, Govani (spelling?) - thanks for a great week. Question for You

I was listening to one of the local radio stations - kwyq, The Way FM, this morning on the way to the office. They were asking the question, "If you could live in a totally Christian community would you?" Responses varied. I would be interested in knowing what you think. Favorite Cereals

As I was scarfing down a bowl of Total I was thinking about my favorite cereals. Cereal has always been a part of our family - it didn't matter whether it was grabbing a bowl before school and sitting with my Grandpa as he at a bowl of Raisin Bran after church on Sunday nights. Growing up I had my faves. I would still eat them, but me and a lot of sugar in the morning is no bueno. As many of you can attest, it's not like I need more sugar! So I also have favorites now.
