The Weekend Update

This past weekend we celebrated Cindy's Birthday. Actually, her birthday was yesterday, but I was preaching in Peterman, AL and would be gone all day. So. . .we began the celebration on Friday!! It began when she came in from school - cards, presents that included a pair of North Face pants (to replace the ones I ruined) and a day at Island Day Spa (massage, facial, manicure, & pedicure). Then we went shopping, had dinner at Ed's Seafood Shed on the Causeway, and wrapped up the night with coffee at Barnes & Nobles.

Saturday we exchanged the pants for a North Face Polar Fleece - great deal!! Then Cindy enjoyed her day at the spa and I ran errands and finalized sermons for Sunday. While we driving all over Mobile we listened to the Auburn game on the radio and later caught Alabama's mud-stomping of Georgia on TV.

On Sunday I drove up to Peterman, AL - it's about an hour's drive from Saraland - to preach the moring and evening services. Had a great time. Preached on faith - in the morning it was what it is and how to develop faith in God and the benefits of faith and the role faith has played in my own spiritual journey in the evening service. But Cindy's birthday celebration wasn't complete, yet! It also included my very own special rendition of "Happy Birthday to You" as I was driving to Peterman yesterday morning.

Got back home around 9:30 last night. Got caught up on the day's events with Cindy and went to bed!

Whew, what a weekend!!

Camp is Good!

I'm home from a week at a student camp - Camp Chaparral . I was there teaching students how God created them for a place of ministry and encouraging them to involved - somehow. . .somewhere. I was also the guest of Pam & Steve Sparks. They are wonderful friends from my Lufkin days. Steve is the Assistant Director of the camp. Better give a shout out to the staff - Hey Mike, David, Heather, Doug, Tim, Nate, Govani (spelling?) - thanks for a great week. These guys work really, really hard to make your camp stay the greatest. And it was. But I'm exhausted! I'm beginning to wonder if I'm getting too old for this kind of thing? The worship was great - thanks to the brown band ! Hey Michell, Gabi, Rooster, Noah, and #14. They'll get it. Jon Randles really challenged us with his messages - 7 Marks of a Disciple . Need a speaker that speaks truth with wisdom? Get Randles. College or students. He's good. But the late nights and early mornings - WHEW!!

I was listening to one of the local radio stations - kwyq, The Way FM, this morning on the way to the office. They were asking the question, "If you could live in a totally Christian community would you?" Responses varied. I would be interested in knowing what you think. Favorite Cereals

As I was scarfing down a bowl of Total I was thinking about my favorite cereals. Cereal has always been a part of our family - it didn't matter whether it was grabbing a bowl before school and sitting with my Grandpa as he at a bowl of Raisin Bran after church on Sunday nights. Growing up I had my faves. I would still eat them, but me and a lot of sugar in the morning is no bueno. As many of you can attest, it's not like I need more sugar! So I also have favorites now. Here's my list of favorite cereals: Then Cap'n Crunch - the original and all-time favorite, and breakfast with the Cap'n - how do you beat that? Frosted Flakes - don't get soggy in milk Peanut Butter Crunch - Cap'n Crunch and peanut butter, what's not to like? Wheat Chex - add a banana, mmmm. . .mmmmm. . .good!
